zabriskie point, el soundtrack de la película



la canción fue grabada por pink floyd como "come in number 51, your time is up" y aparece en una de las secuencias de la película zabriskie point de michelangelo antonioni. no es otra cosa que una re-elaboración de su clásico "careful with that axe, eugene".

la primera palabra que se me viene a la boca es de apoteósico. concierto perfecto el de roger waters en lima, y perfecto preámbulo a mis treinta años.

sí, dirán algunos críticos, no era pink floyd. pero los músicos que vimos eran de primer nivel: andy fairweather-low, guitarrista, que ha tocado con the who (en su clásico who are you), con el mismo waters desde 1985; jon carin, que tocó teclados en el momentary lapse of reason y coautor con gilmour de learning to fly y tecladista tanto de waters como del resto de los PF; el baterista graham broad, que ha tocado con los beach boys, tina turner y es actual baterista de la banda de blues de bill wyman; el correcto dave kilminster; las cantantes katie kissoon, p. p. arnold, carol kenyon; harry waters, hijo de roger, y que anteriormente ha hecho gira con marianne faithful: y ian ritchie en saxofón.

el asunto es que fue un concierto casi cronométrico, sin ningún detalle al azar.

desde el inicio con in the flesh donde la cosa ya pintaba para mucho, con los martillos clásicos marchando sobre el escenario

el set list ya se conocía, y la primera parte estaba dedicada a repasar momentos distintos de waters, tanto en pink floyd como solista. ¿llamará aldo mariátegui caviar a roger waters con todo su discurso contra bush, tony blair, margaret thatcher? ¿qué habrá sentido al ver la foto de "barrio revolución" tomada a un muro venezolano?

toda esa primera parte fue un alegato contra la guerra y el autoritarismo. no olvidemos que waters perdió a su padre justamente en la segunda guerra mundial y esa imagen se ha repetido fuertemente en varias de sus obras (sobre todo en the wall y en the final cut). tampoco faltó el homenaje al amigo perdido, syd barret, alias crazy diamond.

la primera parte tuvo sus picos en perfect sense, leaving beirut y en sheep con la "liberación" del chancho, que tenía escritas las siguientes frases: "no a la discriminación", "todos los peruanos somos iguales", "stop bush" (al lado de la cola), "kafka rules", "por fin libre".

luego vino lo esperado, el dark side of the moon.

no hay muchas palabras para expresar la calidad de esa parte del concierto. todo perfecto, cuidado milimétricamente, cada parte de solo sin ningún añadido, todo fiel al sonido original. el culmen, al ir cerrando el concierto con brain damage y eclipse y la generación de un prisma láser sobre las cabezas del respetable.

la parte final, el encore, con las canciones conocidas del the wall, happiest day of our lives, another brick in the wall (parte 2), vera, bring the boys back home y comfortably numb.

un concierto irrepetible sobre el suelo limeño.

en youtube encontré este emotivo video, con una buena versión acústica de brain damage por roger waters. como ya deben saber, mañana waters estará tocando en el monumental todo el dark side of the moon.

Roger Waters has stated that the insanity-themed lyrics are based on former Floyd frontman Syd Barrett's mental instability, with the line "I'll see you on the dark side of the moon" indicating that Waters felt that he related to Barrett in terms of mental idiosyncrasies. The line "And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes..." is referential to Syd Barrett's behavior towards the end of his tenure with the band; due to his mental problems, there were more than a few occasions where Barrett would actually play a different song than the rest of the band in the middle of a performance. It features a rather famous opening line, "The lunatic is on the grass..." The lyrics towards the end of the song refer to a frontal lobotomy.
